Recently I was in the gym and I found it interesting how so many members who had access to the same gym and equipment available to them, achieved different results. For example some people have had a gym membership for years but because they aren’t committed to going consistently they haven’t seen much change in their body. Then there are some people who only within a few months are able to get in excellent shape because they put in the effort and dedication.

This made me think about how our walk is with Jesus Christ. Even though we all have access to the same God, there are many Christians who are in different places in their relationship with Him and each person is seeing different results according to what they are putting into that relationship. There are people for example who have been a Christian for many years but they haven’t made progress spiritually because they don’t nurture their relationship with Jesus thru prayer, fasting, and spending time in God’s Word. Such people aren’t really committed. Then there are people who have only been in relationship with Jesus for a short time, yet they are very mature spiritually.

If we want to see progress in our spiritual lives, then we need to stay fit by consistently going to the spiritual gym. That means nurturing our relationship with Jesus on a daily basis by spending time with Him and studying our Bibles. Also, obedience to Christ’s Word will help us grow spiritually. On the other hand, disobedience hinders growth.

James 4:8 KJV

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
