Sometime back there were two friends which I really cared about, and I did not love one more than the other however I became closer to one of them because they were more willing at that time in our friendship. In God’s timing, that other friend came around and we became close too. I do not love that friend any more or less than before but we have a better relationship now.
I have come to see that this is very similar to how Jesus’ love is toward people. While His love is unchanging towards every person, some have a closer relationship with Him than others because they are more willing.
The Bible says in James 4:8:
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
This means that if any person will turn from the things in their life that displease God and spend time with Him (praying, fasting, reading their Bible), then that person will become closer to God. Jesus has a big heart, and He has room for all of us.
