Ecclesiastes 7:16-18 NIV
Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise—why destroy yourself? Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool—why die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes.
One of the ways I find the scripture above can apply to the Christian life is that we should be balanced in our activities.
For example, it wouldn’t be good for us to be so “spiritual” that we don’t take time to care for our health or do some activities we enjoy.
On the other hand, it wouldn’t be good if we focused so much on our health or hobbies that we don’t make time for God either!
I’ve learned that if Christians don’t find activities that they enjoy, they can feel “bored” in their spare time and it can cause them to backslide. They may start to hang out with ungodly friends because they are lonely or return to ungodly activities to occupy their minds.
That’s why it’s important to make time for fun and do things we enjoy!
God has no problem with having fun or hobbies, as long as our activities do not go against the Word of God or become an idol to us. We can actually include God in our activities by thinking about Him or praying as we do them.
I also believe that laughter and enjoyment reduce stress, and therefore greatly benefit our health.
I encourage you to make time for fun in your life!
Do you have an interest or gift that you would like to learn more about? You can pray for God to help you develop in that area!
I am so thankful and grateful for my family. I love how we pull together in good or bad times. With the deaths of my daughter, my husband and than my mom all with in a few years apart. I really needed my family’s support. Thank you Jesus for the strength you gave me to continue on. To God be the glory.
