The Word of God is our most powerful weapon against the attacks of satan. When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He also used scripture to overcome the temptations. Below are several scriptures that you can use to pray for yourself and your loved ones when you need to pray against the work of the devil in your lives. Some attacks that can lead you to engage in spiritual warfare can include depression, suicidal thoughts, hopelessness, discouragement, demonic manifestations, lustful temptation, or others.
Spiritual warfare prayers are different than our usual prayers of petition to God. Prayer is simply when we speak to God or ask Him for something that we need. In spiritual warfare we are fighting spiritually against the devil/demonic force that’s coming against us. Binding and casting out demons is one example of spiritual warfare. Another example is confessing out loud how wonderful and powerful Jesus is in the midst of your trouble (worshipping God when you are getting attacked confuses the enemy).
Before you start
(To engage in spiritual warfare, you must be in Christ. If you would like to know how you can give your life to Jesus please click here.)
If you are already a born-again Christian, you should take time to repent of any sins that you have committed before engaging in spiritual warfare, and make sure that you’re walking in God’s ways. (We cannot fight against satan if we’re living in sin.) If you will repent of your sins and obey The Lord, Jesus will surely help you when you call on Him!
How to pray in scripture
It is very helpful to pray for The Holy Spirit to lead you in your prayers. Then you can begin by praying the scripture as-is, or forming it into a personal prayer. For example, after confessing 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 out loud, you can pray “I pull down the strongholds of satan in my life, in Jesus Name!” You can also name the specific stronghold you are encountering within your prayer.
