We had a few boxes in our home that were previously in a garage. After my son’s bath, he ran into the living room and tried sitting on one.

My husband warned him right away, “Don’t touch that, you’re clean!”

Immediately, the Holy Spirit brought to mind how that moment reflected God’s relationship with us.

When we come to Jesus, He cleans us from our sin and sets us apart. That’s why He lovingly warns us not to partake in things that will defile our spiritual lives.

God’s heart toward us is similar to the motive my husband had when warning our son. His instructions and discipline are out of love and concern for us. They aren’t meant to limit us, but to protect us.

Hebrews 12:6
because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”
