Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
There are many Bible Verses which talk about the fear of God, but the type of fear the Bible is referring to doesn’t mean we should be scared of God. What it means is we should reverence Him. In other words, we should live in a way that reflects our highest respect for Christ.
Think about it, if someone has a reverence for the law, they are not going to take part in illegal activity because they have a healthy fear of the consequences. People who do not have any fear of God will easily sin without thinking much about it. If they reverenced God, they would avoid sin as much as they can and quickly repent for their mistakes. This would keep them out of great trouble. That is why the Bible says that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. When we fear The Lord, we choose to live wisely and keep His commands.
Proverbs 16:6
Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.
Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
